Do I need a Wachovia employee to start a new Team Wachovia?
Yes, every Team Wachovia must have at least one Wachovia employee. Each team needs a minimum of four people, but only one of them must be an employee of Wachovia. The other three or more riders can be friends or family.

What should I wear?
MS Bike Tour cyclists are required to wear an approved cycling helmet at all times while riding. In addition, we suggest you wear comfortable cycling clothing. There are three key safety and comfort considerations in selecting clothing:

  • No buckles or ties that might catch in bike tires or chains.
  • Close-fitted to reduce chafing and wind interference
  • Materials that wick perspiration away from the body

Other considerations:

  • Cycling gloves keep hands dry and protect palms from handlebar vibration. They will also protect your hands in the event that you fall.
  • Padded cycling shorts and tights are available and may provide a more comfortable ride
  • Tights can help combat early morning chill.
  • Cycling jerseys have several pockets to keep energy bars handy.
  • Cycling rain jackets provide great coverage and will fold small enough to fit in your jersey pocket. Remember, we ride rain or shine.
  • In addition to carrying a water bottle in the water cage on your bike, you can also get a hydration system to make sipping while riding easier.

How much luggage can I bring and will it be available when I need it?
You are generally limited to two pieces of luggage, up to 75 pounds total. When you register or check-in, you'll be given one or two numbered luggage tags that match the number on your bib and bike tag. Put the tag on your luggage and take it to the luggage truck, which will transport it to the location of your overnight accommodations. At the end of day one, you can pick up your luggage by showing your bib number. It will be sorted by number to make it easy to locate. On day two, you will drop off your luggage at the luggage truck again. It will be transported for pick-up at the end-point.

Do I need to carry anything with me on the ride?
While riding, you should carry a copy of your driver's license and medical insurance card. Each participant must complete the emergency contact information on the back of the jersey rider number bib as well. Other items to carry such as energy bars and cycling rain jackets are left up to personal discretion.

What if I need food or water during the ride?
There are rest stops every 6-10 miles on the route. These stops will have water, Gatorade, fruit, and other items to get you refueled and back on the ride. Also, lunch will be served at one of the rest stops.

What if I am injured or need help with my bike?
If you need any kind of help along the way, you can alert one of the Safety and Gear (SAG) trucks by waving as they come by you in their patrols. The SAGs can take you to the next rest stop to attend to your needs. If you need to call it a day, the SAGs will get you and your bike to the end-point for the day. If it is early in the day, it may take a while to get you to the end-point, so please be patient. The SAG trucks need to remain spread out in order to be available for any emergencies.

What if it rains on the weekend of the ride?
MS Bike Tours will be held rain or shine. In the event of rain, it's a great idea to be prepared with a cycling rain jacket. If it is raining at start time, it may cause a brief delay. It won't cause a cancellation. Nothing dampens our spirit in the fight against MS!
